A few things the family has been up to in the midst of all the work...

We tried to take family pictures, but the baby wasn't in agreement...

We kicked lots of balls with the baby...

We learned a little sewing...

We worked with the visiting teams...

We went shopping in Lima...

We lost lots of teeth...

We got 2 new pet hamsters...

We got 2 new pet birds...

And we had lots of fun playing sports.

Arevalo Women's Meeting

The women in the neighborhood of our Arevalo church have responded enthusiastically to our meetings at the church on Friday afternoons. Bill's mother, Corinne, presented Bible Studies for our first two official meetings, which were translated by Allen and Noemi Lopez. Sandi Smith prepared delicious refreshments. The women were eager to participate and appreciated the lessons greatly. During the meeting, the women practiced Psalm 112, which they sang for the men in front of the congregation on Father's Day. We were thrilled to see so many of the neighborhood women attend the Sunday service. Please pray for their continued grounding in the Word of God.

University Science Conference

There are many, quite varied aspects to the ministry here in Peru. One minute we are focused on construction issues; the next minute our attention is directed toward discipleship. One day we translate medical terms for a visiting USA doctor; the next day we concentrate on translating Sunday school curriculum.

This week our ministry is focused on an exciting endeavor in our University Ministry, Sociedad Universitaria San Agustin. Dr. Tom McMullen, from Georgia Southern University, is visiting us in Trujillo in order to give a series of lectures at the National University called the "Actualización de las Grandes Interrogantes de la Ciencia" ("Current Thought on the Most Important Scientific Questions"). He gave the first two lectures today and will give three more over the next two days. The titles for today were "The Limitations of Science," in which he demonstrated that Science is based on faith assumptions, and "The Origins of Life," in which he discussed the impossibility of life arising out of chance. The other lectures will be "The Big Bang," "Intelligent Design," and "Evolution." The conference is officially recognized by the university and was inaugurated today by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. At our high point in attendance today, we had about 150 students. Pray that the Lord use these lectures to generate more worldview self-examination among the students and turn many to Christ.

Rev. Roland Barnes leading discussion on pastoral issues

Our Executive Director, Rev. Roland Barnes, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Statesboro, GA, has accompanied Dr. McMullen on this visit. In addition to helping with the conference, taking care of some administrative matters of the mission, and renewing his friendships with the Peruvian brethren, Roland is treating our pastors and leaders to a series of lectures and discussions on preaching. These have been a great source of encouragement to our men. Please pray that we all improve in our preaching of Christ crucified and risen.
