Larco Ladies' Pijamada

With much consternation, we feel constrained to report on the dangers of missionary life in Peru. Missionaries must be on the alert at all times. Without warning, and much to the delight of onlookers, the missionary, and actually just about anyone around, may be humbled for the enjoyment of others. Since a picture is worth a thousand words let us demonstrate just what may happen in Peru at any moment:











Allen and Jami: Cajoled into a Whipped Cream Fight at 2 am

The Larco Presbyterian Church Ladies hosted a Pijamada (in the States we call it a “Lock-In” – a slumber party full of activities), a delightful time of fellowship and Bible study among several generations of sisters in Christ. Dany Hernandez organized the evening to provide an evening of fun for all and give the young ladies the opportunity to glean wisdom from older Christian ladies (Titus 2:4-5). Elva and her family opened their home to us - even cleared out their living room and threw down several mattresses around the room. We sang, played games, had tape wars, whipped cream fights, ate, discussed 3 aspects of biblical womanhood and even caught a couple of hours of sleep. We had a great time!

Please pray for these young ladies – that the Lord would be their #1 love, that they would have patience for the Lord to reveal His plans for their future, that they would respect and love the Law of the Lord, and that they would bring honor and glory to God in all that they say, do, wear, think.

Prayers for Spears Family

We want to ask for your prayers for the Spears family, dear friends of Peru Mission. Robert Spears, assistant pastor at 2nd Pres in Greenville, SC, studied at RTS with Bill and Wes Baker. He has ministered alongside us in Peru, preaching, teaching seminary, and doing construction work, on several annual visits.

Robert and Jenny’s son, David, was involved in a car accident right before his high school graduation in 2003 that caused severe damage to the right side of his head and his brain stem. After many months of therapy, he slowly recovered some of his abilities and could talk. However, he was still subject to seizures, which intensified a couple of weeks ago, leaving him in a coma last week. On Sunday morning, September 17, 2006, David went to be with His Lord.

Please pray for his parents and family who have been his care-givers 24 hours a day for the past 3 ½ years. Pray for the comfort and peace which passes all human understanding, which comes only from the hand of our sovereign Lord.

Chamblin Seminary Classes

Peru Mission Team Men and Dr. Knox Chamblin

After leading the Peru Mission Spiritual Life Conference, Dr. and Mrs. Knox Chamblin continued a very full ministry in Trujillo during the following week.

In keeping with his reputation as a masterful teacher and outstanding example of Christian living, Dr. Knox Chamblin delivered an outstanding SBR Seminary module on the Parables of Matthew for our churches, seminarians, and other believers in the area. Each night, we had more than 50 people in attendance. We studied fifteen parables. Eleven appeared in major discourses of Jesus - seven in Mt 13 (the sower; the wheat and the weeds; the mustard seed; the leaven; the hidden treasure; the pearl; and the net), one in Mt 18 (the unforgiving servant), and three in Mt 25 (the ten virgins; the talents; and the final judgment). The remaining four appeared in chapters 20 (the laborers in the vineyard), 21 (the two sons; and the wicked tenants) and 22 (the wedding feast). It was a fruitful time of delving into the Scriptures and applying the truths contained in these parables to our lives and the lives of our parishioners.

Besides keeping this intense seminary schedule, Knox also spoke to a fraternity of evangelical ministers and seminary students here in Trujillo, and preached various times in Larco Presbyterian Church here in Trujillo.

Mrs. Ginger Chamblin led several women's meetings, for both missionary wives and Peruvian pastors' wives, including our first ever Women's Conference for our Trujillo Presbyterian Churches. She drew from her deep experience in the Christian faith, and delivered a message full of hope for women who are struggling with hard times and depression.

We are very thankful to the Chamblins for pouring out themselves for Peru Mission and the brothers and sisters here in Peru. And we are especially thankful to our Lord for blessing all of us during this past week of ministry.

Spiritual Life Conference Report

We were all blessed abundantly at our 1st Annual Spiritual Life Conference this past weekend in Trujillo.

We enjoyed Dr. and Mrs. Knox Chamblin immensely – they are a great source of inspiration to us. All of the men, and several of the wives, were privileged to study under Knox while at Reformed Theological Seminary. This weekend, all of us were impacted and encouraged by his gift of practically applying his vast knowledge of the Scriptures, especially his understanding of Greek, as we looked at Luke 10-11; Revelation 22; and Colossians 2. The women were also blessed to share separate time with Ginger, gleaning much from her wisdom and encouragement in "Our Journey", as they focused on Ephesians 4.

We also enjoyed precious fellowship, enjoying the rarity of having the entire team together in one place. We even took an afternoon off with all our families to enjoy a recreation center in the countryside. During our conversations and reminiscences throughout the weekend, we were reminded anew of God's faithful work among us as a team since Peru Mission began meeting together in Jackson, MS, in 1995.

The weekend ended with an English worship service, followed by lunch and an especially fervent singing time during our traditional Sunday singing, praising our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
