On Saturday, Corinth was all aglow with 12,000 luminaries filling the site of Battery Robinett and lining the streets into downtown highlighting antebellum homes, the Contraband Camp and the historic railroad crossings. These luminaries are symbol of the number of casualties from both the North and South during the Civil War Battle of Corinth, which took place on October 3-4, 1862. The event was a touching tribute to those who lost their lives.
The Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center, also had camels on-site - to teach everyone about Old Douglas, the camel who was actually present at the Battle of Corinth. Apparently he was use to transport band equipment for the Confederate troops, and died later at the hand of Union soldiers in Vicksburg. Who knew?
