Bill and Alonzo are heading to to Amazonas to teach seminary classes to the eager brethren in Pedro Ruíz. We planned to go as a family, but protests in the region made us decide to wait for the next trip. The protests, over land rights in the resource rich jungle area, escalated this week, leading to deaths of several policemen and civilians. Also, this was a rough rainy season for the jungle area of Peru - numerous mudslides, ruined homes, washed out roads - there have been several deaths and one mudslide even completely buried a herd of 80 cattle! Please pray for Bill and Alonzo's trip, and for the brothers and sisters in the Amazonas region.

It is not over land rights. This is very misleading. There is a political issue, where Nationalist and current goverment are separated by ideology. This resolution will control the natural resources of the state to better the economony and create energy eficiency products like ethanol to be exported to the USA or other markets.
